The number of arrests has increased to six, after a woman was gang raped by a group of ten men in Meloding, Free State.
Last month, a 21-year-old woman was at her rented room when ten unknown African men including her boyfriend entered her room carrying knives and raped her for two consecutive days.
The police apparently responded to a crime intelligence, which led to the first arrest of three suspects.
On Thursday, 10 February, the police made another three additional arrests, where gangsters aged 26 and 30-year-old were nabbed.
“Three suspects were arrested by Welkom POP Reaction Team and they appeared on the 10 February 2022 in Virginia Magistrate Court and the case was postponed till the 17 February 2022 for bail application,” said Lejweleputswa spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng.
A manhunt is said to continue for the other four suspects.
The District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Maj Gen Lerato Molale thanked residents of Meloding for assisting the Police in ensuring that additional gangsters were arrested.
“What was done to this woman is horrific, inhuman and thus we will never rest until the wheels of justice roll,” Molale said.
The suspects will appear before the Virginia Magistrate Court on Monday, 14 February.
