Trio pretending to be police officers robbed a business woman an undisclosed amount of cash at a gun point.
Six months prior the incident, a lady introduced herself as Lerato to business woman, Dikeledi Mphojane (34) when they met at a party.
Lejweleputswa police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng said: “On 20 October 2021, at around 10:00, Lerato phoned Mphojane asking her to fetch her brother who is allegedly from Qwaqwa from Manny’s, a busy industrial market in Welkom.
“The business woman drove to Manny’s to pick up the alleged brother from a clothing wholesaler,” Thakeng said.
“The man claimed he could not buy anything and requested to be taken back to the hiking spot to Qwaqwa at Jason Street in Riebeeckstad, Welkom.
“While they were sitting inside the vehicle, an orange double cab Ford Ranger and a white Volkswagen Polo TSI, both with GP registrations approached them.
Two cars had three occupants in total,” he revealed.
The trio, comprising of two males and one woman introduced themselves as police officers with appointments cards and firearms.
They robbed the business woman cash that was in her car and also her cellphone at gun point.
After robbing her, fake police officers took the woman to R710 road (Welkom to Bultfontein) and abandoned her at a secluded area.
The fourth suspect appeared when suspects took the complainant to the spot.
The woman who introduced herself as Lerato and the man claimed to be her brother from Qwaqwa are nowhere to be found.
Welkom police registered a case of armed robbery for further investigation.
