Wesselsbron Post Office robbed at gunpoint, suspects nabbed!

A gunpoint robbery occurred at Wesselsbron Post Office by alleged suspects who posed as police officers, on Thursday, 3 February.

The vehicle used in the commission of crime was circulated. Two suspects were arrested after it was discovered that they were in connection with armed robbery.

According to Welkom police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng, it is alleged that at about 07:45 a manager, two employees and a security officer were forced in a back office of the post office, where they were tied up and cash robbed.

The suspects were spotted carrying a bag full of cash and ready to sped off from Wesselsbron CBD after post office robbery.

“Eye witnesses spotted a white Toyota Camry with Botswana registration numbers. The suspects were seen been dropped and been picked up by the same vehicle,” said Thakeng.

“The vehicle was circulated and a look out was conducted, during a thorough search, the vehicle that matched the description was spotted in Welkom CBD and stopped by members of Welkom Flying Squad,” he added.

A 32-year-old white male who was driving the vehicle and a 37-year-old suspect were arrested for Business Robbery.

The white Toyota Camry and one Galaxy tablet were seized.

Thakeng said suspects will appear before the Wesselsbron Magistrate Court soon.

“The District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Maj Gen Lerato Molale applauded these joint effort of Crime Intelligence, Wesselsbron SAPS members and Welkom Flying Squad who ensured that two suspects were arrested with a vehicle used in the alleged commission of a business robbery,” said Thakeng.
