Gauteng taxi driver nabbed for two bombed ATMs in Allanridge

A 44-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly bombing two ATMs today, at 01:05 just after midnight in Allanridge, Free State.

The man was arrested in the early hours of Thursday and his vehicle was seized during the arrest.

The police have launched a manhunt for other suspects.

According to the district media liaison officer, Stephen Thakeng, it is alleged that at around 01:05 on Thursday, 13 January, two ATMs were bombed at Allanridge Mini Market.

“The alert immediately reached to all Lejweleputswa SAPS along with Welkom Flying Squad, and they responded to the crime scene.

“Upon arrival, members found duo ATMs bombed and an undisclosed amount of cash stolen,” said captain Thakeng.

“Welkom Flying Squad followed leads which led them to a 44-year-old suspect from Kempton Park, Gauteng, they found him inside his Kia Rio with GP number plates and arrested him for the crime,” he added further.

The suspect is set to appear before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court.

“An unknown number of suspects is still on the loose and police request that anyone with information that may lead to their arrests to come forward. Detective Sergeant Molelekeng Tsoeu of Provincial Organized Crime may be contacted on 0614213938 or Police Emergency number 0860010111,” Thakeng pleaded with the residents to assist the police.
