Residents who were queuing in numbers for Sassa grant are still reeling in shock after four armed men entered the Post office, held the staff at gunpoint and flee the scene with an undisclosed cash this morning, in Nyakallong, Allanridge.
Four suspects armed with pistols and automatic rifle entered the post office premises and robbed an undisclosed amount of cash.
It is further alleged that one of the police officers sustained a gun shot wound.
According to Free State police spokesperson Motansi Makhele, two vehicles were abandoned at Nyakallong, and were used as an unknown get away car.
“A Warrant Officer and other members arrived at the scene while armed robbers were still inside the premises then suspects fired several shots to the vehicles driven by the members, then he returned fire,” revealed Makhele.
“A white Audi A4 sedan with Gauteng Province number plates was struck during the shooting incident,” he further addressed.
It is alleged that the suspects drove off and abandoned the moto vehicle at one of the house in Nyakallong, and fled from the scene with a white Condour with Free State number plates and abandoned it in Odendaalsrus CBD.
“They further jumped into an unknown vehicle. They have undisclosed loot with them and a manhunt has been launched to trace these armed robbers,” said Makhele.
He furthermore addressed that the police officer shot on the scene, is admitted in hospital for medical attention.
“He was shot on his right leg, and his vehicle was riddled with firearm bullets,” detailed Makhele.
