An intelligence driven operation led to the arrest of four drug dealers dealing with drugs in Welkom on Thursday, 10 February.
Police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng said the police received a tip-off about the alleged drug dealing operation in few houses in Welkom.

“We conducted stop and search in Dagbreek, where we received information about drug dealing operation in one of the house that was identified and this led to the arrest of a 38-year-old man who was found with Mandrax tablets,” said Thakeng.
He said the police also discovered drug dealing operation in fewer houses located in Paballong village and A-Hostel in Thabong.
“Members approached a suspicious 40-year-old male person at Paballong Village Welkom.
The suspect was arrested for dealing in Mandrax tablets, we also arrested a 29 year old man in A-Hostel who was also dealing with Mandrax tablets,” added Thakeng.
“The fourth suspect aged 46-year-old was also arrested for dealing in Mandrax tablets.
“1000 full star Mandrax tablets were seized during this operation and undisclosed cash was also seized,” he added further.
Thakeng said the four alleged drug dealers will appear soon before the Welkom Magistrate Court.
“We regard these arrests and seizures of drugs as a breakthrough as they might have landed in the hands of our young people,” said Thakeng.
