A 62-year-old woman was attacked and raped in her home during the night of the Christmas day in Odendaalsrus, Kutlwanong.
The police made a swift of the suspect while in his sleep.
“Allegedly, the elderly woman slept in her bedroom at around 22:15 when she heard a knock on the door, she responded that whoever it was she was sleeping,” read a statement.
“Suddenly, a male voice woke her up and instructed her to undress. The suspect assaulted, strangled and raped the elderly woman,” a statement read.
According to the police, the suspect fell asleep after the rape ordeal, and the old woman escaped through an open window to seek help from neighbours.
Neighbours informed Odendaalsrus SAPS about the incident and they responded instantly.
Upon arrival, members found the suspect still asleep.
Police officers, Tekweni Polori and Matshidiso Mohapi woke the 35-year-old man up, arrested him for house breaking with intention to rape.
In a separate incident, a 60-year-old woman was also raped in her home recently in Bothaville.
“A reasonable nation will stand up to ensure the safety, protection and care for the elderly to prevent their rape by these youngsters,” an issued statement read.
The suspect will appear before the Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 28 December 2021.
