A male suspect is sought by the police in Welkom, who allegedly raped a 22-year-old woman at a gunpoint after she was lured with a promise of a job.
It is alleged that on March 5, at about 16:00 a 22-year-old foreign national woman from Lesotho was raped and robbed her belongings after she was promised employment by an unknown person on Facebook on a page called “A re batlisaneng mesebetsi Basotho“, meaning “Let us assist to look for employment Basotho“.
According to the police’s released statement, both the victim and the suspect have been communicating through texts and phone calls after he posted a vacancy at his work place called Egg Company.
“She was in Pretoria when she started to show interest and was promised to be hired if she come on Sunday, as she must be at work on the following day which was on Monday, March 6,” says Lejweleputswa police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng.
“She boarded a taxi from Bosman taxi rank in Pretoria and arrived at Mannys at about 21:00. She was lured to Jabulani Village where she was raped several times and robbed her cellphones and luggage full of her clothes.
“The suspect speaks Sotho with Lesotho accent and he was wearing a yellow t-shirt with a black collar, black track pants, and white bucket hat. A case of Rape and Robbery was registered for further investigation,” he added further.
The police have requested anyone with information to arrest the bogus employer to contact detective sergeant Joseph Lebone of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit who can be contacted at cellphone number 082 885 2428 or Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
