Lejweleputswa District still sing songs of praise to major companies operating under the district level and other sponsorships across the country who bestowed learners and educators with gifts last month.
According to the district municipality that caterers for over five municipalities, generosity expressed by all companies that ploughed their massive investments to honour educators and learners will forever be remarkable.
Best performing pupils, hard-working teachers and committed principals were honoured during the district Well Done matric awards ceremony held in Thabong late February.
Lejweleputswa district mayor Veronica Ntakumbana continues hailing all companies that made the day to be possible and has further urged for a solidified partnership proceeding forward.
In her speech, Ntakumbana, who is vividly known for endorsing quality education said those who keeps investing in education are paving the way for a brighter future.
The mayor said education remains a top priority for the Lejweleputswa district as whole.
During the ceremony, she said through the tribulations and the hardships that faced the nation as whole, more especially with the Covid-19 pandemic and the ever-recurring power blacks outs, school educators have ensured that their learners obtain high grades.
“We have come to celebrate the fruits of the work you have done excellent and it’s really not easy and Covid-19 took us by storm and our teachers fought a good fight and some fell on their way it was indeed a battle and under Mrs Zonke who’s the District Director did an excellent work,” said the mayor.
“And with the crisis of electricity we are still weary of what the president will do to find an amicable solution of this crisis, we remain resolute that we will conquer this like we defeated the world pandemic,” she added.
The event was organised by Department of Basic Education in partnership with Lejweleputswa District, while the well done function was enormously sponsored by Harmony, Sibanye Stillwater, Standard Bank and Old Mutual.
Attendees included circuit managers from the Lejweleputswa district, officials from all various companies present at the ceremony, educators, school management teams, officials from the Matjhabeng local municipality, distinguished teachers’ unions and class of 2022 matric pupils and their parents.
Harmony Gold handed over 33 laptops and 33 bursaries to matriculants, while the retail store Woolworths donated 40m sim packs of toiletries and Old Mutual made a contribution of R10 000 as a token of lauding schools that performed well within the district.
Other contributors at the ceremony included the world’s largest primary producers of platinum and gold, Sibanye Gold, Atlas Clothing & Sport (Pty) Ltd, Boston City Campus, Buildmat and Standard Bank.
Giving vote of thanks, Chief Education specialist at Free State department of education Mokgobo Thibile acknowledged all attendees and sponsorships.
“This are our partners who have continuously assisted us with the class of 2022 and will continue giving support even beyond.
“We are pleased that teachers and other stakeholders have played a significant role in this result as we are here to celebrate this monument and since Free state has met the target and Free State educators have done excellent work in raising the bar in the year of 2022,” said Mokgobo.
During 2022 matric results, Free State Province kept its title for being the top-performing province for the past four consecutive years.
Mokgobo hailed Lejweleputswa district for their utmost performance in the national matric results: “Our district in Lejweleputswa has performed above the 85% and that is satisfactory to us as the office of the MEC and we say well-done to the Lejweleputswa Education district office.”
“As the department we work on a transformed way of providing excellent work in creating a dynamic environment that is conducive for our educators and learners,” said jubilant Mokgobo.
