Two suspects are behind bars for the alleged rape of a 30-year-old woman from Chris Hani Park in Phuthaditjhaba.
According to Phuthaditjhaba police station’s spokesperson Mmako Mophiring, it is alleged that in the early hours of Wednesday 9 March, the victim heard a noise on her kitchen door while she was asleep with her two daughters.
“When she looked through a window she saw two men who wore blankets, one man had a firearm and the other had a stick in his hand,” said Mophiring.
“She attempted to escape through the window, but it was too late since the suspects came in and the woman was pushed back to the house,” revealed Mophiring.
The two suspects allegedly raped her several times and threatened her with a firearm, before they could flee the scene.
One suspect who was in his 30s was arrested on Thursday, 10 March after being traced and he appeared before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate Court on Friday, 11 March.
The suspect is facing four counts of rape and a charge of pointing a firearm.
Another suspect was found by the Phuthaditjhaba K9 Unit for having an unlicensed firearm arm that was hidden in the garden.
The alleged suspect will also appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate Court for rape and for pointing threatening the victim with the firearm.
