The Welkom K9 Unit along with the Welkom and Thabong Task Teams arrested a man in connection with truck hijacking on Sunday, August 13th.
According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, the police received information about an armed hijacking in 2010-Section, Thabong.
“The complainant was apparently shot at,” added Thakeng.
As a result, the police swiftly responded to the complaint and operationalised the information.
During the operation, the police found and seized the hijacked truck. A 31-year-old suspect found himself in handcuffs after the police found him in possession of a truck battery, theand keys. Furthermore, the police confiscated a 9mm firearm with 13 live ammunitions, the victim’s cellphone, 1g of suspected nyaope, a lolie pipe and bottle neck used for smoking drugs.
The suspect will appear before the Welkom Magistrate Court for hijacking, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunitions and stolen properties.
