The Crime Intelligence (CI) along with Meloding police operationalised collected intel to catch a man in possession of an unlicensed firearm on Friday, 23 December.
According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, during the joint operation, a 29-year-old male was identified in Meloding.
“The team approached the suspect, who was in possession of a 9mm Norinco firearm with three live rounds of ammunition,” Thakeng said.
The 29-year-old could not provide the police with a firearm license, and they arrested him.
On Wednesday, 28 December, the suspect will appear before the Virginia Magistrate’s Court facing possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition charges.
The Lejweleputswa district commissioner, Major General Lerato Molale, applauded Meloding residents for entrusting such sensitive information to the police. He further praised CI and Meloding police for their quick response to arrest the suspect.
