Bothaville man to appear in court for illegal firearm used in robberies

The suspect aged, 27-year-old will appear before the Bothaville Magistrate Court today on charges of possession of Illegal firearms and ammunition, Lejweleputswa district police said.

Following a tip-off from a concerned resident, the suspect was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm in Bothaville on Tuesday, August 2.

This comes after string of robberies involving foreign owned tuck shops were reported mostly in local areas in Bothaville that involves of Mpumalanga, Ditshehlong and Naledi sections.

According to district police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng, a series of violent incidents sent shockwaves to tuck shop owners and the community at large.  

“The police followed a tip-off with the assistance of the Bothaville Crime Prevention that led to a house situated in Kgotsong.

“After a thorough search, the unlicensed 9mm pistol was discovered which resulted in the arrest of the perpetrator from Potchestroom,” said Thakeng.

A firearm was found and a 27-year-old man was arrested.
