Duo busted for being in possession of drugs & illegal firearm

Two suspects are facing the might of the law, after they were arrested for being in possession of illegal firearm and dealing with drugs in Botshabelo, Free State.

The police busted the two men reportedly aged between 22-years-old and 23-years-old on Wednesday, 23 February.

“Upon receiving intel about an unknown male with an unlicensed firearm, the team operationalised the information,” read a police statement.

“When the team arrived at the identified shack in R-Section, Botshabelo, they met a 22-year-old male and requested to search the premises and received permission.

During the search, the police found a black and silver pistol hidden under a mattress.

The man could not produce a firearm license and police arrested him for possession of unlicensed firearm,” statement further read.

According to the police, a preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm was reportedly stolen.

During the 22-year-old illegal immigrant’s arrest, the police also approached a suspicious-looking male and visited his shack.

Upon searching, they found a black plastic bag hidden under the bed. Upon further inspection, they found small bags ready for distribution.

Police then arrested the 23-year-old suspect who also turned out to be an illegal immigrant.

Both suspects will appear before Botshabelo Magistrate Court soon for possession of unlicensed firearm, dealing in dagga and contravention of immigration Act.
