Suspect busted for being in possession of stolen illegal rifle and ammunition

The Botshabelo police arrested an African male for being in possession of unlicensed firearm up in Botshabelo F-Section on Thursday.

“The information received indicated that the target was on his way to Reahola Complex where he was going to trade the rifle,” said media liaison officer lieutenant colonel Thabo Covane.

A Musgrave Model 83 M301.548 rifle, silencer and sixteen (16) live rounds were found in the 28 year old suspect’s possession.

“The rifle was seized and the suspect arrested. It is alleged that the rifle was stolen in Eastern Cape,” said colonel Covane.

Police seized an unlicensed firearm and ammunition from the suspect.

A case of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at Boithuso Police Station.

The suspect will appear before the Botshabelo Magistrate Court on Monday, 31 January.
