Lejweleputswa District Corporate Communication Intelligence, Stephen Thakeng, stated, “Police conducted an intelligence-driven operation after receiving information about a house-and-business robbery suspect in possession of a firearm.”
Crime Intelligence and Welkom POP Reaction Team identified and approached a house in Thabong on Friday, 19 November 2021. However, they did not find the suspect.
Instead, they found and seized eight tubes of explosives gel and 17×9mm ammunitions.
A 20-year-old brother of the wanted suspect could not give proper documents to be in possession of these items. Police then arrested him for possession of explosives and illegal ammunitions.
Arrested suspect will appear before Welkom Magistrate Court on Monday, 22 November 2021.
Lejweleputswa District Commissioner, Major General Lerato Molale, welcomed the arrest and items’ seizure. He further emphasized the trouble criminals were in this festive season and praised this joint team for an excellent work done.
