On Saturday, two armed unknown men fatally shot SAPS officer in Bronville, one suspect has been arrested, while another is on the run.
“At about 01:30 Constable Zwelinzima Sam Bomvu (30) stationed at Bronville Police Station has just reported off duty and stopped at a house of a friend still in his police uniform wearing bullet proof vest, when he was fatally shot,” a statement read.
“While he was there. There was a knock at the door and it was a person known to the owner of the house, who even talked to the member and left.
According to information, the same person came back with another unknown person with a balaclava. They knocked and forced entry and one shot was fired in the direction where the police official was standing,” statement further read.
It is reported that he was hit on his collar bone and he collapsed and died at the scene.
The incident immediately reach Thabong Serious and Violent Crimes Unit.
Preliminary investigation was conducted thoroughly and a 46-year-old suspect was arrested.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Len Singh commended the investigating team for acting speedily and managed to arrest the first suspect.
“Taking a life of a police official is regarded as very serious, hence I urged the team to do everything in their powers to trace and arrest the second suspect.” Said the Acting Provincial Commissioner.
The police are still looking for the second suspect.
