An alleged drug dealing couple are expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate Court on Monday, 17 January, after they were busted by Welkom police’s intelligence driven operation with bags of dagga and illicit cigarettes.
According to Lejweleputswa media liaison officer, captain Stephen Thakeng, the couple are believed to be illegal immigrants, as they have no proper documentation to be in the country.
Speaking about a swift arrest, Thakeng said: “On the 13 January, at about 10:30, a house in Winnie Park Bronville and this led to the discovery of a couple dealing with illegal activities.
“While members were busy searching, 30 dagga wrapped with newspapers, 18 small ziplock bags of dagga, black plastic containing loose dagga, five boxes of counterfeit cigarettes and cash that amounts to R439-00 were seized,” revealed Thakeng.
A 45-year-old husband and a 54-year-old wife were arrested on this police raid.
Captain Thakeng said, the police were given information from crime intelligence about the alleged couple selling dagga.
The couple will be facing a charge for dealing in dagga, possession of counterfeit cigarettes and illegal immigration.
