A 39-year-old suspect appears before Bloemfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 22 November 2021 where he is facing armed robbery and fraud charges.
Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team together with Crime Intelligence (CI) and Tactical Response Team (TRT) all based in Bloemfontein arrested the suspect on Saturday, 20 November 2021.
Captain Christopher Singo said, “He was arrested whilst doing his parole duties at Selosesha Police Station for an attempted murder case where he was sentenced to ten (10) years imprisonment.”
“His arrest originates from an incident which took place on Monday, 31 May 2021 where two members of Crime Intelligence in Welkom came to fetch money from Secret Service Account (SSA) Bloemfontein,” added Captain Singo.
Allegedly, suspects in a sedan with blue lights, but no number plates stopped the two police officials after fetching the money 16km out of Bloemfontein on the Bultfontein road.
Duo officers stopped the vehicle and the suspect, together with other three accused, Simon Van Wyk; Teboho Jonas; and Relebohile Patience Ntliziywane pointed them with firearms and requested the money from them.
Furthermore, suspects opened the state car’s boot and took the black bag containing SSA money to the value of R134 000. Suspends also took officers’ handbags and cellphones.
Sspect and the accused also used one of the official’s bank cards after the robbery.
