A volunteer serving the community of Zamdela at the local police station has appeared before Sasolburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of corruption.
The accused’s Court appearance follows her arrest by Zamdela Trio Task Team after setting her an entrapment.
Trio Task Team’s operation became a necessity as a follow-up on a community member’s complaint after needing assistance.
Prior the entrapment, a womam (67), accompanied by a 21-year-old daughter, requested assistance from Victim Support Centre office. They visited the police station on Thursday, 04 November 2021.
The two allegedly met with the accused, Mosela Radebe (47) at Zamdela SAPS premises who promised to assist them.
Furthermore, the suspect requested an amount of R1 200 to assist them by placing their addicted son into a rehabilitation centre.
On Friday, 05 November 2021, Task Team launched a preliminary investigation and informed Anti-Corruption Unit.
On Tuesday, 11 November 2021, complainants called Radebe to say they had the money and would bring it to her at the station.
Allegedly, she requested R2 450 in total.
Officials then set a trap because no assistance is for sale from SAPS premises.
They then withdrew an amount of R1 200 and complainants took it to the accused and she accepted it.
Members went to the suspect’s office and found R1 200 comprising of the entrapment notes in her bag arrested her.
She appeared before Sasolburg Magistrates’ Court on corruption charges. She received R1 000 bail.
Upon the trail, the court remanded the case to Tuesday, 07 December 2021 for further investigation.
Fezile Dabi District Detective Coordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Seabata Modupe, requests community members who might have fallen victim to this corrupt activity to come forward.
“Our community members deserve efficient, quality services without financial abuse,” concluded Lieutenant Colonel Modupe.
