Illegal firearm and ammunition seized, 34-year-old suspect arrested

The Rapid Rail Police Unit (RRPU) arrested a man with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during their patrol on Thursday, 03 March.

The RRPU conducted a routine patrol between Warden and Roadside and spotted a suspicious white Isuzu double cab bakkie with ND registration plates.

They then signalled for the vehicle to stop and it did. Inside the vehicle were two occupants who claimed to be travelling from Durban to Gauteng.

According to the police report, the RRPU officials requested to search the vehicle’s occupants and received permission.

“Upon searching, police found the passenger in possession of a firearm and ammunition in his carry bag,” read the report.

The firearm was a CZ83 calibre 9 browning, black with serial numbers, two magazines and nine live rounds. The firearm license produced by the suspect was expired and did not correspond with the firearm he carried.

RRPU arrested the suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will soon appear before Vrede Magistrate Court to face the charge.
