The Qwaqwa public order policing arrested two foreign nationals in separate incidents for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition in Phuthaditjhaba, Friday, 23 December.
According to Thabo Mofutsanyana police spokesperson, warrant officer Mmako Mophiring, both operations were a result of information received from the community.
During the pesruit of the received intel, the police found the first suspect in his shack.
“The premisses were searched and a firearm with filled-off serial number and also six live rounds of ammunition were found,” Mpohiring informed.
Following another piece of intel, the police moved on to Monontsha Village at Leratong Section.
Upon arrival, the police found two men sitting outside and one attempted to run away, but was caught. The man then led the police to Boiketlo Village, where a 9mm pistol was found with nine live rounds. The serial number of this firearm was also filed off.
Both suspects will appear before the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 28 December facing possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
It is evident that enhancing police visibility within communities can help eradicate crime and make communities safer much quicker.
