A 48-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly possessing an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in Qwaqwa, said Free State police.
The Welkom Public Order Police Unit were in Phuthaditjhaba when they received intel about a man who was in possession of unlicensed firearms at Mantsubise area in Monontsa Village Tseki.
Police spokesperson in Lejweleputswa district captain Stephen Thakeng says the police were informed that he is intending to leave South Africa to Lesotho with the firearms.
“The police responded expeditiously and headed to the suspect’s upon arrival as they were searching his house they found 177 ammunitions, three firearms and six bags of dagga with an estimated street value of R60 000,” says Thakeng.
The suspect was apprehended and charged with being in possession of unlicensed firearm, ammunition and dealing in dagga and he is expected to appear before the court on Monday, 31 October.
