On Friday, August 11th, the Welkom police arrested a foreigner after the community captured him in connection with house burglaries.
According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, the were on vehicle patrol when residents stopped them in Constansia road, Welkom.
“Residents had apparently caught a suspect involved in house burglaries committed between July and August,” added Thakeng.
Furthermore, the suspect did not have legal documents to be in the country. As a result, the police arrested him for illegal immigration.
“The investigation of burglary cases reported is underway,” informed Thakeng.
The acting district commissioner, brigadier Mzondi Mojafi, applauded the police for responding to the community’s plea. He also praised the community for not taking matters into their own hands.
