Suspected truck tyre thieves intercepted in Sasolburg!

The Sasolburg police’s task team operation have intercepted a bakkie transporting possible stolen truck tyres and four suspected were arrested on scene.

According to SAPS Spokesperson Captain Malebo Khosana, on Tuesday, 26 October 2021, the police followed a tip-off about a bakkie that was on the way towards Sasolburg transporting possible stolen tyres.

“After the vehicle was spotted on R82 road, a chase ensued as it wanted to get away but managed to stop it at the junction of R85/R57 near Amelia,” says Captain Khosana.

It is reported that, two of the passengers tried flee away, however they were apprehended.

“One was arrested in an open field near R82 road while the second was nabbed in the nearby Amelia settlement,” he said.

“Two male occupants were arrested in the car. A bakkie, a grey single cab Ford Ranger was searched and six(6) truck tyres size 315/80 Continental and Goodyear were found loaded inside.

Four suspects were arrested as they could not give proper clarity for these tyres,” addressed Captain Khosana.

Captain Khosana said, the suspects are expected to appear at Sasolburg Magistrate Court soon on charges of being in possession of suspected stolen property.

Fezile Dabi Acting District Commissioner commended the team for this breakthrough.

“We had several cases reported in this District where truck drivers have been experiencing theft of truck tyres and truck hijacking. We want to send a message to these scoundrels that we doing everything in our power to stop their cruel acts.”
