Parys police issues stern warning to residents over tricksters at local shops!

Community members are warned to be aware of tricksters who operate at shopping malls during festive season.

According to Parys police, it is alleged that these tricksters pose as people who can assist unsuspecting potential shoppers that they can get items for them from the shop at discounted prices.

“A female victim reported an incident where these merciless swindlers stole her bank card and purse,” a statement read.

She told the police that in July, she was at Checkers when she was approached by an unknown lady.

She further detailed that this lady informed her that she can get groceries at a discount in Checkers.

“She was convinced to give her bank card, PIN and purse. The complainant was ordered to wait outside.

She discovered after a moment later that she was tricked when the suspect was not returning with promised
groceries,” the police revealed.

“A case of theft was opened for further investigation.

“The suspect who is still at large, was described as a woman of Zimbabwean nationality with a dark skin complexion aged between 35 and 40, speaking English with Zulu dialect,” statement further read.

The police said, on the day of the incident she was wearing a blue white facial mask, a black coat, blue jeans, black leather boots, carrying a pink Ginger Mary handbag.

It is reported that this theft case is assigned to Detective officer Joseph Hunter of Parys SAPS detective Unit.

The Fezile Dabi Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Mapulane Mbeloane appeals to community members to refrain from buying items using illegal ways.

“It is better to buy goods legally than using illegal means which leaves you with goods of inferior quality or end up being duped,” said the Brigadier Mbeloane.

“Be aware of your surroundings and take care of your hard earned cash,” concluded Brig Mbeloane.
