Lejweleputswa police commissioner general Lerato Molale has condemned the recent attack on police officers, who were vigorously attacked by an angry mob, while other police officer was robbed off his firearm when they were on duty to effect an arrest of the most-wanted suspect in Thabong.
This comes after police officers were due to arrest a suspect following an issued warrant of arrest today, June 18.
It is alleged that, members of the community attacked police officers and a firearm was robbed during the antagonism.
“On Saturday at about 15:00, two members of Thabong were attending a complaint in Mosunkutu Street in Mshenguville Thabong, when police officers approached the house and wanted to arrest the identified suspect with a Warrant of arrest,” says police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng.
“He (suspect) was aggressive and then residents turned to attack the police instead of assisting the police,” adds Thakeng.
Thakeng entails that the firearm that was seized from the officer is Z88 pistol with ammunitions, “The firearm is still gone and manhunt has been launched,” Thakeng says.
“We expect residents to assist the Police in ensuring that law and order is maintained in Thabong,” pleads Thakeng.
A case of robbery and aggressive attack on a police officer, has been registered for further investigation by the police.
Lejweleputswa commissioner general Molale has appealed to residents of Thabong to assist Thabong station commander Envor Solomon and his team (police officers) in their endeavor to reduce crime in the area.
He also requested residents to assist in tracing the suspects who robbed the police officer’s firearm.
