Welkom police appeal for help to locate Daniel Moentane, after pensioner robbed R40k by bogus cops!

The Welkom police are appealing for help to find Daniel Gaopalelwe Montane, alleged to have joint forces with bogus police officers to rob an old pensioner R40 000.

Police said the victim from Welkom, was kidnapped by suspects who posed themselves as police officer, and forced the victim to deposit the amount to the bank account of Moentane.

“He was forced to the bank in Welkom CBD where he deposited R40 000 cash in the bank of the 47-years-old.

The suspects released him and he realized that he was robbed and registered a case of kidnapping with the police,” Thakeng said.

Thakeng said this occurrence dates back to September 2020, where the victim, a pensioner was approached by four African men who posed as police officers and the fifth woman who named herself as a police captain.

“A thorough investigation was conducted and the bank account holder was found to be residing in Klerksdorp which was visited and the wife was found and related to the investigator that they divorced with Daniel Moentane, and that he is residing in Welkom as he’s a job seeker,” he said.

“Cash that amounts to R20 000 was withdrawn and the account was blocked with no transaction that can be made any further,” added Thakeng.

Police spokesperson said, Moentane can assist the Welkom SAPS with crucial information can help the investigation.
