Different stations’ members conducted Vehicle Control Points in Kroonstad on Friday, 26 November 2021, and arrested a pair for possession of large sums of cash.
“Members conducted VCP led by Captain Motsoeneng on R721 as part of Safer Festive Season Operations,” stated Captain Malebo Khosana.
Within less that an hour of the VCP, police nabbed two suspects for possession of a box and plastics containing R100 notes, which the owner claimed to be proceed from selling gold.
Before the discovery, an approaching motor vehicle stopped about 600 metres away, which Captain Motsoeneng found suspicious.
They drove to the motor vehicle and found two male passengers in it. When searching the vehicle’s boot, members found a box and plastics containing notes.
Duo nervous suspects made monetary offers to the members to let them go (attempted bribery), but members refused the offer.
“Police arrested the two males, aged 38 and 54 to resume with the investigation around this huge sum of money.
They also confiscated the cash, confirmed to be about R1.3 million and a white Volkswagen Polo,” added captain Khosana.
Furthermore, members contacted Hawks for assistance.
Duo suspects are expected to appear before Kroonstad Magistrate’s Court soon on facing money laundering and bribery charges.
