Safer Festive Season Operations lead to roadblocks throughout Lejweleputswa District

According to Captain Thakeng, police throughout the district conducted roadblocks; stop-and-search; and vehicle checkpoints to ensure police visibility and fulfill their promise to protect and serve law abiding citizens of this country this Festive Season.a

Hoopstad; Hertzogville; Bloemhof and Provincial Traffic Departmentmembers conducted interprovincial roadblock in the region.

During this festive season, members stopped and searched 66 vehicles and 103 people; issued 14 fines totalling R5400, and issued 100 pamphlets to motorists with crime hints.

Ventersburg SAPS together with Provincial Traffic Department held a roadblock at N1 Highway road.

They stopped and searched 330 vehicles and 330 motorists. Issued traffic fines amounted to R1 800. Members also issued a fine for live stock transportation without removal certificate.

In a separate Vehicle Check Point held in R70 road, members stopped and searched 13 vehicles and 27 people.

Brandfort SAPS and Provincial Traffic Department also conducted a roadblock leading to 40 vehicles and 77 people stopped and searched.

They issued 10 Road Traffic Act fines, which included exceeding speed limit. Members also effected arrests for not complying with Covid-19 pandemic regulations and drunkenness.

“The roadblock held by SAPS members in Bronville revealed driving without a license; failure to display valid license disc to be big issues,” says Captain Thakeng.

Bothaville SAPS; Bloemfontein Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Provincial Traffic Department held a roadblock which led to the stopping and searching of 213 vehicles and 154 people. Members issued 11 traffic-related fines.

“Two motorists were fined R5 000 each for failure to furnish removal certificate under the Stock Theft Act,” added Captain Thakeng.

The Boshof roadblock was held by SAPS members led to 15 traffic-related fines and 165 vehicles were stopped and searched.

In Welkom, Policing Partnership and FLASH held a vehicle checkpoint Koppie Allen road and Bok Street.

Members issued two fines issued for driving without a driver’s license. They also handed 50 GBV and Illicit substance usage pamphlets to motorists.

Bultfontein SAPS with Tswelapele and Nala Traffic Department also held a roadblock in R700 road between Bultfontein and Soutpan. They stopped and searched 60 vehicles, leading to the issue of 53 traffic related fines amounting to R12 000.

“Members also conducted roadblocks at Theunissen; Allanridge; Wesselsbron and many other Police Stations,” concluded Captain Thakeng.
