The Selosesha police have arrested an illegal immigrant found in possession of 98 ID documents and more than 100 bank cards on Friday night, 11 August.
According to the Thaba-Nchu police spokesperson, sergeant Mahlomola Kareli, the police received intel about a man in possession of a number of identity documents.
The police then followed up the information which led them to a house in Zone 4, Selosesha.
“Upon arrival, the police encountered a 28-year-old foreign national. Upon searching his room, the following was found: 42 smart card IDs, 55 RSA ID books and one Lesotho passport. Furthermore, 105 bank cards from various SA banks and a birth certificate were also in his possession,” reports Kareli.
Investigations are underway to establish the reason for the suspect’s large possession of different people’s personal documents.
The police arrested the the 28-year-old for unlawful possession of identification documents and illegal immigration. He will soon appear before the Thaba Nchu Magistrate Court.
“Anyone who might have lost or submitted their ID to the suspect must please visit the Selosesha police station to retrieve them,” requests Kareli.
