Thaba Nchu man nabbed for burning his girlfriend to death

A 41-year-old man was allegedly arrested for allegedly burning his girlfriend aged 25 to death in Thaba Nchu, the Mangaung police said.

According to police spokesperson in Mangaung Thabo Covane, a passerby witnessed a horrific scene where a woman was engulfed in flames on Milner Street in Thaba Nchu at about 06:00 on Monday December 5.

“She rushed to the police station and notified them about it, then the police responded to the complaint and on arrival
discovered a badly burnt female who managed to inform them that her partner doused her with petrol and then set her ablaze,” she said

Covane said in the aftermath of the incident, emergency services were summoned to the scene and an ambulance rushed the victim to the local hospital where she later took her last breath.

A search for the suspect was launched by the police, and he was located in Odendaalsrus in the province of Free State.

The suspect is set to make his brief appearance before the Selosesha Magistrate Court soon.
