The Albert Moroka School hall in Thaba ‘Nchu, Free State has been damaged by the current heavy rains within the province.
The hall which serves as a marking centre at the school, has been flooded after the roof was blown away by the strong winds and the heavy rainfall alleged to be a tornado.
According to the Free State Education Department spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, said that educators who were busy marking matric papers were injured following this tragedy.
He says the school hall, marking centre, control room and some classes were damaged.
Ndaba further added that the roof plates were blown off and ceilings collapsed which resulted in some scripts getting damaged.
“Officials and markers did their best to limit the damage to the scripts, the full extent of the damage is yet to be assessed,” said Ndaba.
Pictures that went viral over social media showcased vehicles of educators that were damaged following this hail storm.

Several households were also left in the dark in the entire Mangaung region – that includes Bloemfontein, Thaba ‘Nchu and Bothabelo.
