Yesterday, October 26, the Thabong police received a tip-off from the Orkney police station, about the alleged man who strangled his girlfriend and concealed her body under the bed at Thandanani Section in Thabong after an argument ensued between the couple on October 20.
According to Lejweleputswa police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng, upon the police’s arrival on the scene, the perpetrator’s story corroborated with the evidence they discovered there.
“Police officers discovered the body of an African female under the bed, the deceased was naked, she had a swollen eye, strangulation marks on her neck, her breasts were covered with a headscarf, and she was wrapped with a white duvet,” detailed Thakeng.
The deceased was pronounced dead by emergency medical personnel.
“Based on Preliminary investigations the deceased’s brother Zakhele Gonyongo identified her as Ntombizodwa Mariam Gonyongo aged 27 years.
“It is alleged that the 26-year-old perpetrator was recently released on bail for rape last month in September.
“He is currently detained at Orkney police station for murder and he is set to appear before the Welkom Magistrate Court soon,” says Thakeng.
According to Thakeng, the murder case is currently being investigated by detective warrant officer Gerrie Nel of Thabong Serious and Violent Crime.
