A man accused of dousing his wife with flammable liquid and setting her alight appeared before the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Monday for murder.
Mangaung police spokesperson Thabo Covane said the case against Gabriel Modise (the accused) was postponed to Monday 14 for formal bail application. He is remanded into police custody while awaiting trial.
It is alleged that the 36-years-old man set her wife alight in an open field in Olive Hill, Bloemfontein.
According to Covane, the 33-year-old victim reportedly suffered serious burn on her face and neck, as a result she was admitted to the hospital where she spent four weeks in Intensive Care United (ICU).
Covane said the wife tragically succumbed to her injuries last month.
“The police received the report from the hospital and a case of murder was opened,” said Covane.
The police apprehended the 36-year-old at his home in Glenmare Street, Olive Hill near Bloemfontein.
