A 40-year-old Ward Councillor is set to appear in court for a formal bail application following his arrest on charges of sexual assault.
On the 11 July 2021 at about 16:30, a 13-year-old girl was at a tuck shop in Thabong when the Ward Councillor called her and touched her sensitive body parts.
“They went both to the residence of the Councillor where she was allegedly raped. The incident was reported to Thabong Police Station and a case of Rape was registered for further investigation,” a statement read.
The rape accused, Ward Councillor Tumelo David Nthako, was arrested and he appeared in the Magistrate Court and the case was postponed for bail application.
Upon his appearance at court on the 6 August 2021, the court declared that his formal bail application will be heard on Thursday, 12 August 2021.
The case was handled by Detective Sergeant Andries Holtzhauzen of Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, who effected the arrest on the 5 August 2021.
