Woman and man in custody for possession of stolen copper cable worth R68k

The Kroonstad Highway Patrol busted two suspects in possession of stolen copper cable during a Vehicle Check Point (VCP) operation on the N1 road on Wednesday, 11 May.

Police spokesperson in the Fezile Dabi region captain Malebo Khosana said, the police were were conducting the VCP operation when a Toyota Quantum was heading the same route as the operations.

“To the member’s surprise the taxi stopped before it could reach where the members had stopped and immediately made a U-turn. The vigilant members immediately followed the taxi and stopped it,” revealed Khosana.

“Upon searching the taxi which had two occupants a male (29) and a female (38), the members found that it was fully loaded with cut Transnet overhead copper cables suspected to have been stolen,” he addressed further.

The recovered suspected stolen copper cables are estimated to be the value of R68 127.50

The two suspects have been arrested and will be charged for possession of suspected stolen property.

They are expected to appear before the Kroonstad Magistrates Court tomorrow, 13 May.
