Seven suspects held for seizure of ‘stolen’ copper in Kroonstad N1 road

Kroonstad police spokesperson, Fikiswa Matoti said the Highway Patrol Service busted seven suspects, after they were found in possession of bundle of copper valued around R65 800.

Matoti, said the arrest occurred on Saturday, in the early hours of the morning at about 05:25, where the police saw a suspicious looking vehicle that seemed to be overloaded.

“The vehicle was coming from Welkom R34 route headed to the N1 route towards Kroonstad. They managed to stop the vehicle.

Upon search, they discovered that the white Isuzu bakkie was overloaded with passengers and suspected stolen copper cables,” said Matoti.

The seven suspects aged between 30 to 49 were arrested on the scene, and they will appear before the Kroonstad Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 3 May 2022 for possession of suspected stolen property.

The Fezile Dabi District Commissioner Moses Makubo applauded the members of Kroonstad Highway Patrol for their vigilance and for the successful bust.

“I have no doubt that with this kind of immediate response our District will surely become one of the best policing models as we are able to sense crime from afar and from infiltrating our District,” said General Makubo.
