Kroonstad high way patrol recovers 15 suspected livestock

Members of Kroonstad highway patrol conducted their normal duties when they came across and stopped a suspicious truck with 15 livestock on Monday, 07 February 2022.

Sergeant Ruben Ntlokotsi and Constable Itumeleng Mosia stopped the white truck on the N1 road, driving from Ladybrand destined to Vanderbijlpark. Inside there were two Lesotho nationals who were questioned and managed to produce proof of purchase and a certificate from Department of Agriculture regarding the livestock.

Upon further questioning, Constable Mosia called the number on the receipt to confirm the purchase. To their surprise, the person who answered the phone had no relation, nor knowledge of livestock transportation.

Members took the duo aged 31 and 32 to the nearby police station for further
questioning. Suspects could not provide a precise story, nor account for the livestock in their possession.

The suspected stolen cattle estimated at R225 000 has been recovered.

Arrested suspects will appear before court on Tuesday, 08 February 2022 facing possession of suspected stolen livestock.

Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Mapulane Mbeloane, applauded members for their great work.

“This is evident that our instincts as police officials can never lead one
astray. We ought to be observant at all times as the least expected person or vehicle is the most dangerous one. I am thankful that my members saw this one afar. May we continue working hard until our rural areas are safe and conducive for farming,” concluded Brigadier Mbeloane.
