Two people arrested for alleged stock theft in Heilbron

Two people were arrested after they were found in possession of suspected stolen livestock Fezile Dabi region police said on Thursday.

The suspects, aged 27 and 30, were arrested at the Languerwacht farm in Heilbron, Free State.

“The farm owner alleged that on Tuesday counted his sheep, locked them and took his employees home,” said police spokesperson captain Malebo Khosana.

“On Wednesday, 11 May he received a call from a neighbor who informed him that his sheep are wondering around and seem like the fence has been cut off,” further added Khosana.

“The farm owner then came back and followed up information that appeared on the cameras which seemed like a bakkie loaded with the livestock has headed towards the direction of Sasolburg.

“The farm owner alerted the police and followed up the leads. They found 12 sheep locked inside a room at one of the houses in Zamdela,” he added.

Two suspects were arrested and 15 sheep with the estimated value of R30 000.00 were recovered by the police.

The two suspects will appear before the Heilbron Magistrate Court tomorrow 13 May on a charge of stock theft and possession of suspected stolen property under Stock Theft Act.
