Welkom Flying Squad together with Reaction Team Illicit Copper Cable and Matjhabeng Security arrested a 57-year-old man for possession of suspected stolen property on Tuesday, 26 October 2021.
The team received information about a white truck with stolen copper cables to be sold at a scrap yard in the Industrial area in Welkom.
Intelligence driven operation was conducted.
Members went to the location and found truck with 17 bags of Eskom copper cable worth R3 million.
They apprehended and charged the suspect for possession of suspected stolen property.
Copper cable and the white Hino truck were confiscated.

He is expected to appear before Welkom Magistrate Court soon.
Lejweleputswa District Commissioner, Major General Lerato Molale, commended the team for this breakthrough and thanked community members who provided information to the Police.
“I urge community members and business people to refrain from buying stolen property to deprive market for criminals. Copper cable theft is a detrimental effect on the economy and infrastructure,” said District Commissioner.
