Welkom woman bust with nyaope, drugs worth R40k

A 36-years-old woman has been arrested for dealing with drugs valued over R40 000 following a tip-off.

The Welkom police’s Public Order Policing (POP) received information about drug dealing operation in Moltino street in Reitzpark, Welkom, while they were on foot with crime combating.

She is expected to appear before the Welkom Magistrate Court tomorrow, August 10, on charges of dealing with drugs, and in possession of large quantity of drugs.

” A request was made to search the house and voluntarily the female gave members a plastic bag of Mandrax tablets and cash inside.

“The members [police] took them but insisted to search further on their own and lots of drugs – CAT, Nyaope were found on top of the wardrobe,” says Lejweleputswa police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng.

According to Thakeng the seized drugs were 110 medium CAT bags weighing 205 grams, 51 bags of nyaope weighing 108 grams and 66 full Mandrax tablets including money amounting to R2 600.

This incident comes after a crime awareness campaign took place in the vicinity of Thabong last week, as previously reported by Kasi Voice News.

The campaign  urged community members to report suspicious activities and it is apparent that the plea did not fall on deaf ears.

Lejweleputswa police district commissioner Lerato Molale applauded community members for being a reporting nation.

“We regard this arrest and seizure as a breakthrough,” said Molale.

The Welkom police were applauded for their swift response that led to arrest of the suspect.
