Foreign national ‘couple’ caught with drugs, dagga in Welkom

An alleged drug dealing couple are set to appear before the Welkom Magistrate Court this morning, after they were busted in possession of drugs and dagga in Welkom.

The Welkom police’s K9 Unit, were on a vehicle patrol in the central business district on Friday, 20 May, when they came across a suspicious tinted windowed sedan vehicle.

“The driver tried to evade and police gave chase until it was cornered,” said police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng.

“Two occupants male and a female were found be foreign nationals and a request was made to search them.

“While members were busy searching dagga was found hidden under the steering wheel, on further search hard drugs were found passenger side floor board under carpet,” Thakeng said.

Thakeng said upon the search in the vehicle, the police found 15 zip locks Chrystal Meth, four zip locks CAT, two packets of Heroine, 17 pieces Crack Cocaine Rocks, two cigarette boxes with 35 ready made dagga zolls, 37 zip locks containing dagga high grade and 173 grams of dagga.

The two suspects aged between 24 and 29 years old, are facing charges of being dealing with dagga and drugs.

Thakeng said zeized items are of the street value of R8 150.

“Cash that amounts to R4 500 was found and seized inside the sedan vehicle,” he added.
