The Hennenman police and the Welkom Flying Squad arrested three suspected livestock thieves occupying a suspected stolen vehicle in Wesselsbron on Friday, November 18th.
According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, the Hennenman police received a tip-off about a vehicle involved in goats theft. As a result, three officers, sergeants Mokhatla and Mosesi as well as warrant officer Dexter operationalised the information right away.
“During the operation, the police spotted a white Nissan NP200 with GP registration numbers in the Hennenman district and mobilized the Welkom Flying Squad,” added Thakeng.
A preliminary investigation revealed the bakkie to be stolen in Alberton back in August 2020.
The flying squad also spotted and followed the bakkie on their end until the Wesselsbron/Odendaalsrus junction where they stopped it.
Occupying the bakkie were three African males who could not produce the vehicle’s documents as per the police’s request.
As a result, the three suspects were arrested by sergeant Harmse and warrant officer Thobisi from Welkom Flying Squad for possession of suspected stolen vehicle.
The trio suspects aged 21, 28 and 39 will appear before the Wesselsbron Magistrate Court on Monday, November 20th.
