The Welkom police have increased their visibility in the CBD as we approach the festive season. This was established as a direct charge at criminal activities that occur on a daily basis to unsuspecting residents.
In the early hours of today, the Public Order Policing were on crime combatting duties near one of the malls in the CBD when they stopped a white Toyota Voxy with foreign registration numbers.
According to the Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, captain Stephen Thakeng, the vehicle had three occupants and a request was made to search their vehicle.
“During the search, the police found a firearm in the side pocket of the driver’s door,” added Thakeng.
The men were then arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm. A live ammunition was also found and seized. As a result, charge of possession of unlicensed ammunition was also added. The vehicle was also seized.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the men visited a house at Extension 18 in Hani Park, Bronville earlier on.
The three suspects aged 29, 35 and 54 will appear before the Welkom Magistrate Court on Tuesday, November 21st.
