A 22-year-old woman from Section K2 in Kutlwanong is recovering following a traumatic incident in which she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted after she was offered a lift last week, July 26.
The victim was approached by an unknown African woman driving a white Toyota Tazz with Lesotho license plates (LG447C).
The woman offered the victim a ride to Kutloanong, which she accepted.
Stephen Thakeng, Lejweleputswa police spokesperson, said “When inside the the same lady, told the driver that she must first be dropped off at Hospital park, Odendaalsrus, to make as if it’s a taxi. She was offered a Fanta Orange drink and she drank it. Then she could not remember what happened.”
It is reported that when the victim, regained consciousness, the victim found herself in a shack with the same woman who had offered her the drink.
“The woman attempted to suffocate her with a cloth. The victim managed to fend off her attacker and escape the shack, eventually reaching a main road where she flagged down a legitimate taxi,” says Thakeng.
Thakeng added that, the victim arrived at Kutloanong Satellite Police Station around 17:30, where she reported the incident.
Medical examinations confirmed that she had been raped.
Police are now searching for the four suspects, the female attacker and three male accomplices, all of whom are Lesotho nationals.
“Detective Warrant Officer Mandie Jacobs of the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit is leading the investigation. She can be contacted at 082 490 6455 or through Crime Stop at 08600 10111,” Thakeng advised.
The police are urging the public to avoid using vehicles with foreign registration plates and to ensure that taxis have proper signage.
Women and girls are advised to refuse drinks from strangers.
