Motorist wanted by Bronville cops after pedestrian killed in hit-and-run incident

The police are on the hunt to find a driver who failed to stop after he knocked down a man in Bronville, Welkom, which resulted in his death.

Lejweleputswa district police spokesperson captain Stephen Thakeng said the motorist drove away and left the man writhing in pain.

“The body of an African male person was found lying on the road in Erfdeel road Extension 21, in Bronville, Welkom after an unknown motorist hit the victim ND never stopped at an accident scene,” Thakeng said.

Thakeng said Bronville SAPS were summoned to the scene, after residents witnessed a hit and run incident, where the pedestrian was allegedly crossing the road when he was hit by a vehicle and he sustained injuries.

“The body was facing down, he was still moving but could not talk and his face was full of blood.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that there were two occupants – the driver and a passenger who fled on foot from the scene leaving the vehicle, a brown iTonner Nissan with registration number CKD 821 FS,” added Thakeng.

It is alleged that the ambulance was called to the scene, and took the injured man to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

“A case of culpable homicide has been registered for further investigation,” Thakeng said.

At the time of the accident, the deceased was wearing a blue t-shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes.

The police discovered an Oukapi knife and a Samsung cellphone next to his body.

“The deceased could be 1,6 meters tall, medium body, dark in complexion, had natural black hair and could be between 35 and 40 years old,” Thakeng described the deceased.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and kept as exhibit for this culpable homicide case.

Thakeng said the deceased has not yet been identified.
