Manhunt under way after fatal shooting of taxi driver in Gauteng informal settlement

The investigation into a fatal shooting of a taxi driver last week is still ongoing and the Gauteng police are asking for the community’s assistance to help locate those who had a hand in the murder case.

On Sunday, April 14, tragedy struck at the Angelo Informal Settlement in Boksburg, Gauteng, as the lifeless body of a man was discovered.

Speaking to Kasi Voice News, the Gauteng police spokesperson Kweza Noxolo says that the incident has sent shock-waves in the community of Angelo Informal Settlement.

Details surrounding the incident remain murky, with conflicting reports emerging from the scene.

According to anonymous source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the lifeless body of a victim – a taxi driver who was driving a Quantum, was found lying on the ground.

The discovery was made by a passerby who had just left a nearby church, highlighting the random and unexpected nature of the violence that unfolded.

Reports suggest that tensions had been simmering in the Angelo Informal Settlement, with rumors circulating of a feud between members of the Basotho and Zulu communities.

Allegations of previous altercations between the two groups have surfaced, with speculations of retaliatory attacks swirling among residents.

The source recounted hearing discussions among locals, alleging that the shooting may have been an act of revenge following prior clashes between Basotho and Zulu leaders.

Colonel Noxolo revealed to Kasi Voice News, that the police were summoned to the scene.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim hailed from Wattville, raising questions about the motive behind his presence in the Angelo settlement.

“The fatal shooting has left us puzzled, with no clear indication of why the victim was targeted or what led to the violent confrontation,” says Noxolo.

“The scene of the crime painted a grim picture, with evidence suggesting a swift and deadly exchange of gunfire. Bullet casings littered the area, and a taxi, presumably the one driven by the victim, bore the scars of the violent encounter, its windows shattered by the hail of bullets,” Noxolo revealed to Kasi Voice News.

As the investigation unfolds, the community remains on edge, grappling with the shock and uncertainty surrounding the incident.

The police have assured residents that efforts will be made to bring those responsible to justice and restore a sense of hope to the Angelo Informal Settlement residents.

The tragic shooting serves as a stark reminder of the underlying tensions and challenges faced by communities living in informal settlements across South Africa.
