Lejweleputswa police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng says the truck driver involved in this morning’s crash on Bok Street in Welkom where a truck overturned has fled the scene.
It is believed that a truck lost control careening into the side of the road.
Revealing the news to Kasi Voice News, following a tip-off, Thakeng says two passengers travelling with the ‘no-where-to-be-found’ driver sustained injuries and there were no fatalities reported.
“We can confirm that this morning on the 16 January 2024 at about 06:00 the truck driver with two passengers were travelling from Bok street towards Stateway when he lost control of the truck and it overturned. The luggage of pampers were lying all over in the street,” Thakeng told Kasi Voice News.
It is alleged that the truck driver and the passengers were under the influence of alcohol.
Thakeng reported that the first passenger sustained injuries and was taken to Bongani hospital, while the second passenger never sustained and injuries but he was under the influence of liquor.
Several emergency teams were on the scene.
Thakeng says a manhunt has been launched. “The truck driver fled from the scene and is therefore wanted, the SAPS attended to the crime scene and investigation continues.”
