Ventersburg cops launch search for truck driver involved in a ‘road rage’ shooting

The Ventersburg police are on hunt for a truck driver who allegedly shot one of the thieves who tempted to rob his truck.

Lejweleputswa police spokesperson Stephen Thakeng says on Saturday, 20 January, at around 3:30 pm the police received a tip-off over a shooting incident on the N1 highway at a truck stop in Ventersburg.

“During the incident, a 19-year-old man was shot and killed on the scene, and his body was found lying in the highway road with a gunshot wound at the back of his neck,” says Thakeng.

The deceased was identified by his next of kin as Mokhethi Hlakoane.

The other two allegedly fled from the scene with stolen hair pieces while other items were on the ground next to the deceased.

Thakeng confirmed that the truck driver drove off from the scene without reporting the incident to the police, and thus a manhunt has been launched.

“Anyone with information that can assist in tracing the truck driver is urged to contact detective
sergeant Mosiuoa Keketsi on this number: 060 878 6341 or contact the crime stop on 08600
10111,” Thakeng said.

The police confirmed that a case of murder has been registered for further investigation.
